In 1981,
GX Jupitter-Larsen decreed all vacant lots in every city as
monuments to entropy.
So, Regardless what city
you're in, if you see a vacant lot, you'll be looking at an untitled readymade
sculpture of his.
|
The sculpture itself isn't the rubble, or anything that may be inside the lot. No,
each of these public sculptures are the urban voids that each lot creates by just being
there.
There were vacant lots before Jupitter-Larsen dedicated all of
them to entropy. But when a vacant lot is recognized as a monument, the void
becomes highlighted for an urban sensitivity beyond the usual sympathetic and hugable
concrete of the cityscape. No garden is complete
without its weeds.
